Has anyone else noticed that you are no longer able to contact the owner of any Private Tree on Ancestry?

I just tried it by clicking the contact button and the message box came up. Or you getting that far then it won't send the message?

I wonder if it is that particular tree owner who may have removed access?

There is the possibility that the tree owner is no longer a paid member, if so they can no longer send or receive messages.

Thanks,this has been happenung not when I've tried to make contact with just one or two of those with a Private Tree for the past few days but all those I've tried to make contact with a Private Tree.

I'll  phone Ancestry and report back here on my findings!

I phoned Ancestry to get help on this query.They said that their developers were working to resolve this issue.However they advise that there is a way to get around this issue in the meantime.It is to click on Community at the top then click on Member Directory.When this comes up you then click on Basic Information.Then you enter the username that hopefully you will have made a note of!

It is true that one cannot initiate contact (send the first message) without a subscription, but anyone (subscriber or not) can recieve messages and reply to them.

Thanks for your action, William Russell Jones. I've been driven to posting comments on the trees when I can't contact the owner. I did have a lovely reply from someone I managed to contact to say someone in their tree had wrong details. "I've just started weeding out my tree. That person isn't related to me". So in the middle of the night the big bad Ancestry folk plant foreigners in our trees? claytonbradley
