Richard and Catherine PALMER of Cork.
« on: Tuesday 09 July 13 17:32 BST (UK) »
Any info regarding my ancestors.  Richard Palmer was born approx 1787 in Cork and was serving with the 66th Foot Army on St. Helena Island where Napoleon was exiled.  We believe he met Catherine on the Island and married there.  They had several children who were born on S.H.  We believe Catherine may have been a native of the Island and we know nothing about her or her maiden name or what nationality she was.
After Napoleon died they most likely left St. Helena around 1836 or thereabouts.
We know they went to Cork, Ireland, but no records to prove it.
Would be grateful for any help!

Hello & welcome to Rootschat.

Have a look at www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation

This was a land survey carried out in the mid 1850's.
It is showing a Lieut Thomas Palmer - Landlord Board of Customs
County Cork. Barony Imokilly, Union Midleton, Parish Cloyne. Townland Ballycroneen West

Showing a Catherine Palmer Landlord Earl of Kingston.
County Cork. Barony Condons & Clangibbon. Union Mitchelstown Parish Brigown. Townland Brigown.

www.nationalarchives.ie  for 1901 Census.  It lists 78 Palmer surnames for county cork.

Hope this may help :)
