I've seen the Charters for the Town and the fair moves through out these
The Current Appleby Fair, claims the Charter of James II but as this did not get ratified thro Parliament these is some question as to wether it is legal.
The fair as developed over time into an Horse event but in the early Charters that grant the fair to
the Town Horses are not mentioned. The concept that it is a Gypsy Fair is Wrong Fairs were
granted to a town for it to gain an income, There is very little in the records prior to the Birth of Victorian newspapers and the it is mainly the misdemeanors that get the coverage.
The Charters do name The Mayors and sometimes the Aldermen
Thanks for the thought
If I find anything interesting on The Fair then I will share

Hi Westmorland,

Haven't heard from you for a while.

How are The Burgess Records for Appleby coming along?

The other thing you may know - are there any old records (Not BMD's) of anything kept in the Church. e.g. history of the church with any names etc. I am sure I can remember old books in the Vestry room at the back of the Church from when I went to Confirmation Classes in the 50's.

Best Wishes
