heatherwalsh, You are missing a child

There also appears in the Tasmanian records:
Alfred Johnson born 14 Dec 1861 Oatlands - #1196 - mother Ann Dike, father William Johnson

So there were two William JOHNSONs on the Marion (2).  I think yours is this one:

Conduct Record
http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON33-1-70,313,148,L,80

Indent
http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON14-1-31,260,68,L,80 (page 1)
http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON14-1-31,260,69,L,80 (page 2)

His activities match the info so far and the other one was much older and still serving his sentence in 1851, so not "free".

He was a watchman in 1846, and may have gone on to become a constable.  He had been a soldier, and convict soldiers tended to be more often appointed as constables.  Both he and Ann were in Oatlands at the same time.

Anne's conduct record:
http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON41-1-3,175,33,L,80

Just go to the next page for Mary's conduct record.

I cannot see anything in the newspapers about the charge of wilful murder.  She had no time added to her sentence - she was in gaol at Oatlands in September 1855 (see side note) and received a TOL in November so perhaps she was awaiting the outcome of a trial and nothing came of it.

I think this might be a reference to the murder, the victim being a Mr AXFORD.

JOHNSON and his wife committed for trial as accessories: http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/12972152

In April 1861 William Johnston was a police officer (No 311) stationed at Oatlands.

Hello, I am new to this and have found this whole chat excellent for my family search. Did you find anything on Ann Dyke brothers if they were transported also? Do you also know what orphanage Ann went to?
