1861 census lookup / Knighton/ Radnorshire Minton
« on: Sunday 12 June 05 18:23 BST (UK) »
Ellen Minton married in 1881 in Knighton, Radnorshire.
Believe she was born in 1859, most likely in Knighton, Radnorshire.  Know no other info.  Seeking names of  her parents and siblings.

Thanks in advance

On the 1861 census for Knighton there is one Minton family but no Ellen/Eleanor.
Also a eighteen year old, unmarried servant, surname Minton, living elsewhere in Knighton.

I would guess  that the Ellen at Boughrood (previous post) is a de Winton. (The de Wintons were  local gentry.)

Please note that villages in Radnorshire are known and written differently in English than in Welsh, so it is useful to first study maps of the area and get acquainted with the different versions, their proximity, and family strongholds.  Remember that in 1800, the primary mode of travel was one's own two feet for those without the means to maintain an horse.  That means courting usually extended about 8-miles (2-hours walk) from home.  It has been estimated that 85% of the gentry married within 15-miles of their home, so you can save yourself considerable time by studying a map first!  That said, you will find John Pugh married Elizabeth Greenway at Bryngwn, Radnorshire, on 19.X.1777.
Aloha!

1961 seems to have the incorrect name for the possible mother. This is 1871 for Edward's family (he dies in 1869). transcribed as Menton on Ancestry. Living in Hay on Wye

Naomi Minton    35 - b Llanfihangel Rhydithon. Innkeeper, widow
Edward G Minton    6
Sarah H Minton    10
Fanny L Minton    9
Martin Minton    5
Maria Minton    4
Ann Taylor    20 - servant
William Morris    23 - nephew b Llandegley Radnorshire

RG10, 5593, 107, 25

Haven't found a marriage for Edward yet, in case

So may not be them, as marriage post dates Ellen. However there is a 23 yr old Ellin Minton in the workhouse in 1861 who maybe connected
