Natal Marriage Index now available on Familysearch
« on: Thursday 18 July 13 10:12 BST (UK) »

The steps to search for a Natal Marriage are as follows:

1.        Open FamilySearch website (https://familysearch.org/)

2.      Click "Search"

3.      Under "Browse all Published Collections" click "Africa"

4.      Under "Historical Record Collections" on left menu under
"Collections" click "Birth, Marriage & Death"

5.      On next page also entitled "Historical Record Collections" click
the 9th row "South Africa Natal Province Civil Marriages 1845-1955"

The URL address for this page is:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2063749

6.      The page which opens gives you the ability to "Search Collection"

To test, I entered "Hazel Beryl ABBEY" clicked "Marriage" and clicked "Search"

7.      Only 1 Result was found

8.      Click on the underlined Hazel Beryl ABBEY (in red).

9.      The next page shows the record about the Marriage.

10.  On the right of the page is a button "."  Click it.

11.  Voila!  The certificate is found on the film which is also searchable.

Yay at last! It has been complete for a number of years. I actually checked a couple of days ago to see if it was on.

Thank you so much for that information.  I've just downloaded a lot of Archbell marriages, and my friend in Howick is over the moon!!!  Thanks again from both of us.  :D :D

"Ditto"   ;D

Just as an afterthought - are there any plans to add baptisms and burials?

Not that I'm not grateful for what we do have, BUT   ::) ::)

Yes, many thanks to you, Derek and 'Eleanor in Durban' for that news. I have tried it out and found a few marriages that I expected but failed to find one or two as well. Can you outline what exactly this dataset, rather different probably from a UK one, represents please?

Apparently a small percentage of marriages still have to scanned and added. Unfortunately the person responsible is unwell and is unable to do them.
