Trying to find any connections and marriages for Christopher (Frederick) Nickels.

I want to find out if Christopher Frederick Nickels (b. abt 1806 in Colchester, Essex - d. 19 Jun 1860 in Camberwell, Surrey) was the son of
John Pells Nickels (b. 1 Jun 1768 in Ipswich, Suffolk - d. Sep 1828 in Colchester, Essex), a cabinet maker and Elizabeth West (b. 1767 d. 1827 in Colchester, Essex).
As far as I know they had 8 children - Henry, Charlotte,, William, Benjamin, Hannah Rebecca, Christopher Frederick, Sophia Matilda and Lucy Emma all born in Colchester, Essex.
John Pells Nickels parents were - James Nickells (b. 1741 in Ipswich, Suffolk) and Elizabeth Pells (b. 1736 in Suffolk).

Did Christopher Frederick Nickels marry Elizabeth (nee Dixon?) (b. abt 1817 in Portsmouth, Hampshire - d. 24 Sept 1873 in Walthamstow, Essex)?
(also shown as b. 1816 in Portsea Town, Hampshire - d. 13 Apr 1871 in Camberwell, Surrey)
He may have also married earlier? a Jane Cliff Fuller on 30 Jan 1826 in Clerkenwell St James, Islington.

In 1851 - CFN is a Gutta-Percha Manufacturer, married to a Elizabeth with 2 children - Charles and Henry, living in Camberwell, Surrey.
In 1871, Elizabeth is a widow living in Camberwell, Surrey with children - Elizabeth, George, Charles, Henry, Walter and Ernest.
Her probate (24 Sept 1873) shows her in Walthamstow, Essex (Why?) and Henry Waterloo Nickels   (b. abt 1815 d. 1888 in Shoreditch) - Foreman at Gutta-Percha Works as son and next of kin?
(His Father is John Nickels - Cabinet Maker) which has me confused?

Just to add confusion, I would like to know if Edward (Edouard) Nickels (b 26 April 1829 in Paris, France (British subject) d. 1894 in Tunbridge Wells, is a son of Christopher (Frederick) Nickels.. Their is mention that CFN lived in Paris and had a shop in Monmartre.

Can any clever detective assist me.

There is an awful lot here to gets ones head round, and as you say, some doesnt quite tie up.

So I think you need to go back to basics, and start with the most recent information that you are absolutely sure of. E.g - are you descended from one of CFN's children? Or is  that still unclear, if so can you be sure of a grandchild?

Let us know what is a solid starting point, then we can start to hunt around.

As Liz says there is a lot here to check

The probate doesn't tie up because it relates to a different Elizabeth Nickels who died aged 83.  Your Elizabeth died in 1871 according to Free BMD.

Deaths Jun 1871   Elizabeth Nickels 55 Camberwell 1d 484

And the Elizabeth Nickels that you have quoted from 1871  - her son Henry is age 26, thus born about 1845ish, so cant be the Henry you give as 1815-1888

also, if CFD was born 1806, and Elizabeth Dixon in 1817, neither could be the parent of someone born 1815!

I suppose the starting point is the 1851 census.

I think Christopher Frederick was previously married to a Sophia, who died Jan 1834 aged 28.  Buried at Lambeth.

Son to that couple Charles bap 8 Apr 1833 at Lambeth St John the Evangelist.  CFN is noted as an Elastic Web Manufacturer.

Charles is buried a few days later on 14 April 1833.

Christopher dies 19 June 1860

The probate index entry gives address as Albany Road, so we can be pretty sure that is the same guy as the 1851 census

Might be worth getting a copy of his Will - hopefully he makes provision for all his children and you can see if Eduard is mentioned or not.
