OK Shelly, it was worth a shot - just feel there is more to find on the Armitage family, although obviously can't name because they appear to be still living in New York - possibly Staten island for a couple of them.

Peter had a sister Susan born in 1886 who married Patrick Quinn from County Tyrone Ireland.  The immigrated to the USA about 1906 - in 1910 lived Cumberland, Providence, Rhode Island.

Patrick Quinn 35 Born Ireland.

Old message board post :- http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=1&p=surnames.hepburn

Think these guys on the message board post may be related but looks like they are following different Peter Hepburn's  from what I can see.

Your Peter Hepburn could be the son of John Hepburn and Jane Mitchell.  Looks like Jane is at home on her own in 1901 - can't see the image only a transcription. 2 Vennel Glasgow Renfrewshire. Peters father was born in Dumbarton according to the Census whereas in the other family the father was born in Ireland  ???

Jane Hepburn 42  William Hepburn 25  Jane Hepburn 17
Nellie Hepburn 15  Sophy Hepburn 13  John Hepburn 4
Peter Hepburn 9  Dougal Hepburn 7 Annie Hepburn 4
Sam Callaghan 20

New York Passenger List - Peter Hepburn may have worked his passage - looks like crew - arriving 24 Jan 1919 on the Trinculo - Travelling Greenock to New York. Signed on 31/12/1918
Also a brother James Hepburn born 1883 signed on 28-12-1918
And a brother John signed on 28-12-1918. (John seems to be married and is on the 1930 census with wife and children)

Appears with brother Dougal Hepburn (born 1894) and James (born 1884) Brooklyn Assembly District 3, Kings, New York in 1920

1891 shows James with the same parents - 12 William Street, Greenock Renfrewshire.
John Hepburn 45  Jane Hepburn 34
William M Hepburn 14 James Hepburn 10 Jane Hepburn 8
Helen Hepburn 6 Sophia Hepburn 4  John Hepburn 2

Hi Jean,

No idea what the problem is with the pm box saying full - messages are coming through okay.
Have queried this but not got an answer as yet.

Didn't get any further with the James and William Hepburn death dates being the same unfortunately. Must have been some sort of accident  ???
