Aldridge marriage 1809 Westoning
« on: Tuesday 30 July 13 12:15 BST (UK) »

George Aldridge married Sarah Barnes on 10th November 1809 in Westoning.
I know Sarah was a widow, but I want to know if the same is true for George.

Would anyone be able to check the parish registers for me to see if George was described as a widower. It would be a great help.

Thanks very much

The Westoning PR marriage gives no status to either party, so how do you know Sarah was a widow? Was it because there is a burial of Thomas Barnes on 18 Nov 1806 & previous baptism of Alice daughter of Thomas & Sarah Barnes 25 Jul 1802,

I could see no burial of a female Aldridge who might have been George's wife.

Thanks very much for your reply.

The Aldridge family moved from Buckinghamshire to Westoning, or I was working on a hypothesis that George had already been married before, but unfortunately the registers can't confirm or deny this.

Thanks again.

George Aldridge married Sarah Barnes on 10th November 1809 in Westoning.
I know Sarah was a widow, but I want to know if the same is true for George.

George and Sarah feature in my family tree.

I have Thomas Barnes (bap 1780 Toddington, buried 1806 Westoning) marrying Sarah Deller (bap 1779 Sundon, buried 1845 Westoning) in 1798
and baptising Frances 1800, a short-lived Alice 1802 and Sarah 1805.

In November 1809 I then have Sarah marrying George Aldridge (buried 1837 Westoning) at Westoning and baptising
Mary 1810, Edward - my g-g-g-grandfather - 1813, William 1817 and James 1823.

From the "people of Hanslope" section on the excellent Hanslope Historical Society website (http://www.mkheritage.co.uk/hdhs/index.html)
I've potentially got George Aldridge marrying Mary Burgess at Hanslope in 1795 and they baptising a Nelly who dies a few months later
followed by her mother. He then appears to marry an Ann (not in Hanslope) and they baptise an Elizabeth in December 1799 and a John in 1802
who is buried in 1803 followed by Ann in Feb 1804.

This George appears in the records of financial support 1796-1803 which may be the reason
why his wives and children don't fare very well - one assumes they are having trouble making ends meet - and may be why he then moves to Westoning
where there's more work.
