Hill - Market Drayton

I am interested in finding out more about Benjamin Hill born 1846 and his wife Mary Ann born 1850. They lived at 2 Rush Lane and she was the  gate keeper on the level crossing. I am particularly interesting in verifying the story passed on that Benjamin prevented a railway accident and was given a wall clock inscribed in 1869.
Can anyone help with information or direct me to possible sources of information. I have already tried Stoke Museum and York Railway Museum with no joy. I will be visiting the area shortly so a personal call may yield more than an e mail if I know where to go.
