Well, this article is published in The Argus (a Melbourne local newspaper) in 1951, and it says that nothing had been heard of this Wilson for 17 years. That's why I think that he was still alive and in Melbourne at least in 1934.

The Argus was a newspaper published in Melbourne until 1957.

As do newspapers today , it reported news from all of Australia (and needless to say , the world)

There is no mention of Victoria as the man's location in the cited item.

Are you certain this advertisement was not placed in any other newspapers in Australia?

That it is not found on the TROVE newspaper search site does not mean the advertisement was not also in other papers at the time

Sue, you are right. According to the advertisement we only know for certain that he was still alive in Australia in 1934, but we cannot be sure that he was living in Melbourne by that time. You are right, I don't know whether this advertisement was placed in other newspapers in Australia, so I just was guessing when I said that he was living in Melbourne. He might well be living anywhere Australia in 1934.

Any help to try to locate my relative or his descendants?

Thanks

1934 Australia ... every state .... The Great Depression .... Men tramped the countryside across state borders .... looking for work... had done so from early 1930 until 1939....

The cutting may well have appeared just once and in just one paper...  I think that would be sufficient to meet the minimum requirements of statute law to show you had advertised for a particular beneficiary to come forward.

Have you sought the Probate documents to show you IF he was found ...

Hi JM,

Thanks for your reply.

No, I have not seen the Probate documents but I can confirm that he was never found.

I need some help to locate my relative in Australia after 1934 but I don't know where and how. Any idea?

Thanks

Without duplicating info already given on your other current thread are we looking for ONE or TWO chaps missing since 1934...

Apart from the newspaper cutting what other documents do you have to show he came to Australia...

Sorry for duplicating. It's only one chap.

The information I have is from the family. He was put in a vessel (on or about 1915), probably in London, and sent to Australia.

Who or what is the origin of this information.

Small word of caution here......Try not to use the names of people still living on any response on this public board.

Hi Sue, I have not official records except The Argus cutting in 1951 where it is mentioned that he arrived to Australia 36 years before and that nothing had been heard from him in the last 17 years.

Cheers.
