liberty james b 1887.we think he came back to england butnever heard of .

Hi, looking at the photograph he could have been in the Royal Artillery, he looks to have a signalers trade badge on his forearm, could be wrong, but someone will tell you for sure.

I agree with Frank, probably a bombardier as no rank insignia visible.

Hi again, there is a medal index card on Ancestry for a Liberty James, Royal Field Artillery, number 135259 who is shown as a driver, hence footwear in photograph I would assume.

Hi again achooo, there is a Liberty James, Driver, Royal Field Artillery died 26th July 1919 Hampstead, Greater London, England.

Just to add this persons number is diferent to the first Liberty James I mentioned, he is also shown as Driver, R.F.A but his number is 135261.

The Liberty James who died in 1919 is shown as aged 25 in the GRO Index.

Hi,

You could look for him in 1901/1911 census; birth around 1894.  His birth certificate should show parents; around 70% of WW1 army records were destroyed in the bombing in WW2.

Just checked the birth index.  3 possibles; 2 births registered in MarQ 1895 (so possibly born in 1894)...one in Poole, Dorset and one in Torrington, Deveon. One birth in SepQ 1896 in South Stoneham, Hampshire.   :-\

my liberty parents are william and jemima
