THE VEIGHEY FAMILY
« on: Thursday 08 August 13 22:05 BST (UK) »
I am trying to research my great grandma's side of the family  the veighey's from Naas my Great grandma Was Harriet Veighey Born 1899 in Naas i know her father was William Veighey and Her mother was Maria Pierson, i know her father was from Armagh but can not be sure who his father is i have hit a brick wall as i don't know much about my Irish connection even though my Nana Maureen Harriet's daughter was also born in Naas but then they moved to England in 1922 sometime when she was a baby so i am doing a family tree to see what i can find out about the Irish family we have, I also believe that my great grandmothers father lived in Cavan at some point as well any info will be a big help .

Hi

The 1911 census shows the eldest child as 19 but says married 11yrs.  So either William or Maria was previously married.  A copy of their marriage cert  should give their parents names

Hi

Extract from  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/help/history.html

Quote
The original census returns for 1861 and 1871 were destroyed shortly after the censuses were taken. Those for 1881 and 1891 were pulped during the First World War, probably because of the paper shortage.

Thank you i did see that record on family search and i wondered if she was the correct Sarah it just confused me a little as i believed she died in Kildare but i can't find a record of her death in Kildare for 1895 so she probably is the one in Carlow.   I know William married my great Grandmothers mother Maria Pierson in 1896 and my great Grandmother Harriet was born in 1899 , on the 1911 census for her family they lived in Ballysax Kildare, and her brother James Veighey is 19 years old at that point and her sister Sarah Jane is 18,  there were also younger sisters Ellsie-maria ,Lillie and Frances Veighey,  her other 2 brothers William Richard born 1911 and Samuel born 1912 obviously were not born then... If anyone can please tell me where i can find more info about Mathew Veighey and Harriet Duncans parent i would be grateful also i cannot find anymore record for James veighey my great grandmothers eldest half brother like his birth record .

Having a bit of trouble understanding this thread - lack of capitalised proper nouns makes everything appear to run together but most of all, I'm not sure who "Mathew Veighey and Harriet Duncan" are as I think they are just mentioned in the previous post  ???

nic0jones2013, have I got this correct?

William Veighey (c1864 Co.Armagh) m.1 (1891) Sarah Jane McLean (c1865-1895 Co.Carlow), m.2 (1898) Maria Pierson.

According to several online family trees-

William Veighey died 1927. Parents Matthew Veighey 1828-1914 & Harriet Duncan 1832-1894
Sarah Jane (McLean) Veighey died 1895. Three children-
      James born 1891 Kilmore
      Sarah Jane  1893
      Harriet 1895-1895
Maria (Peirson) Veighey died 1953 Co.Kildare. Children-
      Harriet born 1899
Elizabeth Jane 1902-1950 this is incorrect as she died 1902 and Susanna died 1950
      Elsie Maria 1903
      Susannah Jane 1906-1950
      Frances 1909
      Lillie 1909
      William Richard 1911-2011
Samuel John 1912 birth year incorrect
