I found some interesting stuff last night but was busy so ............

1861 - Helen b. Ballar  (ref as OP)
1871 - Ellen b. Ruabon (RG10/5653/45/23)
1881 - Ellenor b. Ruabon (RG11/5514/12/20)
1891 - Ellen b. Merionethshire, Bala (RG12/4613/68/2)
1901 - Ellen b. Bala, Merionethshire (RG13/5218/30/15)

I'm sure that I've got the right people (similar address, ages, children's names. In 1881/91  daughter Naomi (9 and 19) was with them)

So - an Ellen, Helen, Eleanor and other variations possibly  born  Bala/Llanycil/Llanfawr/etc.  area circa 1834

That's if she said she was born Bala!

Llanycil
20 Feb 1833 Eleanor Roberts d/o Owen and Catharine
20 Oct 1833 Eleanor Williams d/o Ellis and Elizabeth (the first son was an Ellis!)
Llanfor
15 Dec 1834 Ellen Jones d/o David and Elizabeth

There are also some for Llandrillo but not sure if she'd say 'born Bala' for there.

Thanks Gadget,yes I also followed the family through again last night and like you found especially in the later Census years "Ellen" is referred to as born in Bala Merionethshire.The couple are still alive in 1911.Whilst not referring to the Rhosymedre marriage for my info,I do have William as the son of Edward and Mary Jones my Greatx3-Grandparents who married in Llangollen in 1821.

If we are indeed looking for someone born in the Bala area yes the Eleanor Williams does look appealing as you  say their first son was called Ellis.

This is the 1851 Census entry for William with his parents.HO107/2503/172/40.It is not clear who the Mary given aged 84 is the mother of but that is a side issue!

Looking through the North Wales BMD Marriages again,there is the possibility of a Corwen Civil Marriage between a William Jones and an Elinor Roberts in 1852.

Looking even further afield there is a marriage between a William Jones and an Ellen Williams at Liverpool,Our Lady&St Nicholas&St Anne in 1853.

Think we should be looking fro a marriage 1855/6 

If you go to family search, there are quite a few  baptisms for Ellen/Eleanor (vars) in the Bala area - including the neighbouring parishes. Some are just refs to censuses but there are some actual baptism records. Only ones with father Richard are Trawsfynydd

I think to start with the best plan for me is to order the Birth Certificate of Naomi who it looks like was born in 1871.
