1901 Census - Ada Rix
« on: Wednesday 14 August 13 00:39 BST (UK) »
I am having trouble locating a 1901 Census Record for a Ada Rix (1872).  She married a Samuel John Rix in December 1899 in London.  I have Ada A Lanceley (various spelling) for the 1881 and 1891 Census and then again in 1911 (Ada Rix).   Hoping someone may be able to help on this one.
cheers

Many thanks for the help so far :-),
I have the info regarding marriage and birth of Arthur Edward.
Karenlee - I will check out the .census under the name of Hunt, very interesting as it does appear to match, plus new info regarding the army.

Thank you all so much  ;D

Cheers

Interesting for the 1901 Census how you would derive HUNT for a surname from RIX???
I have had a look at the Census and cannot work this one out, but there does not appear to be any info under Rix for this Census

Hi,

If I have the right Samuel John RIX then I might have a suggestion as to why he was called HUNT in 1901.
The 1911 census gives his POB as Norwich. His marriage certificate shows his father as Samuel, deceased, a shoemaker, so my idea starts with him.

Caroline HUNT,  nee CHAPMAN,  late RIX is living with her husband Henry in Poplar in 1891, 1901 and 1911.

Samuel and Alice weren't with Caroline in any census. This looks like Samuel in 1891,

Samuel J BIX    Nephew      13    Scholar                 Norfolk Norwich

Oooh....I think I've just found proof :)
Looking at Samuel's Army records it says his mother is Caroline HUNT, 125 Grundy? St, Poplar, the same address that Caroline is living at in 1891 and 1901 ;D

Maybe Samuel decided to take his stepfather's name of HUNT then changed his mind and went back to RIX, unfortunately the reasons why will probably remain a mystery.

Regards,
Daisy

Hi there,

Ada Rix was my great-grandmother. I believe that her maiden name was Lanceley and that she was born in Kingston upon Thames.

i believe that her son my Grandfather, John Rix born 1901 or 1902, was the only one of her children to marry. I really don't know much about this side of my family and would love it if someone could fill in the gaps.

Cheers
