Davies marriages: Holywell/Bagilt
« on: Saturday 17 August 13 13:35 BST (UK) »
Could some kind person help me with lookups in the parish registers for Greenfield/Holywell/Bagilt for the following Davies women, all daughters of Peter (shoemaker) and Anne Davies, who continued to live in the immediate area until their deaths in the 1880s:

Amelia b Jan 1839. There is an Amelia Davies, a widow at Prescott, Lancs. in the 1891, visiting the Thomas family, born in Mostyn. Unfortunately, the 1861 Census for this area appears to be missing. She has fled the family nest by 1871. There are several possibilities of Davies spouses in the 1871s - but nothing to nail down a marriage or spouse name, assuming she married.

Sarah Elizabeth (my ggmother), b. 1842, I have already.

Anne, b. March 1849.

Ellen b. 1852. I also have already.

Many thanks

Best wishes

John

Hi

Re: Amelia - if she was a widow surname Davies then Amelia Davies must have married a Davies

Is there any such marriage on freebmd?

To lookup a marriage in parish records - you need to know the name of the church and you also need to narrow down any search by providing a year and quarter for the marriage.

You have given 3 possible venues for the 2 marriages which would entail somebody trawling through every entry for every church/chapel in those areas for an unknown timescale.  Quite a task

I think you can discount the Amelia Davies visiting the Thomas family in Prescot in 1891.

1878 - John Thomas & Sophia Davies married in Mostyn - Sophia was 19 - her father was William.
1861 - William Davies wife Amelia (both born Llanasa) and daughter Sophia age 1.
1859 - William Davies married Amelia Evans in Llanasa

Therefore Amelia Davies was Sophia Thomas's mother - although John Thomas just put her down as visitor!

The search for your Amelia goes on.

Me again!! Have you discounted the death in 1859 Jul-Aug-Sep qtr for Amelia Davies registered Holywell district ref: 11b 190. No age is given so you will need to buy the certificate to confirm it is your Amelia.

Amelia was aged 28, from Mold. Think that's too old for John's Amelia...

Thanks for that Deirdre - can I ask how you got the age as it wasn't on BMD index or North Wales BMD index? Might be a useful tool to have in my repoitoire (? spelling).

From the parish records, gives the actual date too.

The Anne marriage looks good though  :)

Wow, whata lot of useful traffic. Many thanks to all. It looks as though Fairlane is on the money for the1869 marriage of Anne. That one certainly looks pretty certain.

And, yes, I will need to get the 1859 Amelia death, since that also looks a strong possibility. Thanks, Fairlane for eliminating Prescot Amelia.

Many thanks also to Deidre and Carole

Best wishes
