Trying to find Burial Records - Harehills, Leeds
« on: Sunday 18 August 13 17:09 BST (UK) »
Hi, am new on here and not sure what I can ask and where to ask it....
Anyway, my husband thinks his grandmother is buried in a family grave at Harehills Cemetry and we would like to know which other family members are in there. She was Sarah South (1892-1963) and her husband was Benjamin South (1889-1932). Her mother was Kate Walker (1866-1954).
Any help would be appreciated as we live a fair way away from Leeds.
Many thanks.

Hi and a very warm welcome to Rootschat.

I have located the burial details of a Benjamin South who died in 1932 and is buried in Harehills Cemetery in Leeds but however the year of death of his wife does not match the year of death which you have of 1963.

Here are the details.

Harehills Cemetery, Leeds
Grave Number 1418, Grave Section L.  Grave Type unconsecrated.

11th April 1932 burial of Benjamin South of Leeds aged 43 years, Commission Agent.

19th February 1976 burial of Sarah Elizabeth South of St. George's Hospital, Rothwell aged 84 years.

With regards to Sarah's mother Kate there are two Kate Walker's buried in Harehills Cemetery.  One of which has the same year of birth as your Kate's but died in 1958 aged 92 years.  She is buried alongside her husband Charles who died in 1952 aged 87 years and their daughter Rosa who died in 1929 aged 34 years.

If you think that this is the Kate Walker you are searching for let me know and I will post the additional details.

Best Wishes

Hi and thanks so much for your speedy reply. Think I'm going to like it here!
It's definitely the same family, and I had made a typo with Kate, we have her death as 1958 too. I hadn't found out what happened to Rosa, so thanks for that.
We are a bit perplexed by Sarah though as she definitely died in 1963. I wonder what could have happened?
Thanks again, and any more info would be gratefully received,
Alison
