(*Completed with thanks*)Potton Registers - BLAND
« on: Tuesday 20 August 13 18:23 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am seeking the burial of Joseph BLAND prior to 1841. He was baptised in 1776 in Langford, married Rebecca RUSSELL in Sutton in 1801 and subsequently raised a family in Potton, his offspring being baptised there between 1801 & 1822. His wife, Rebecca, was buried in Potton in 1832. There is a burial of a Joseph Cooper BLAND in Wrestlingworth in 1839 but this is his grandson. I can find no trace of him in either the 1841 or 1851 censuses, so I believe he probably died between 1821/22 (baptism of his youngest child) and 1841.
Is there anyone with a knowledge of the family or access to the Potton registers who maybe able to help?
Regards
Jim

Hi
I've had a look on NBI CD and cannot see a Joseph Bland in your timescale there are these
Burials
29 Sept 1839 Joseph Bland  Infant Wrestlingworth St Peters
27 August 1830 Joseph Bland 3+ Blunham
19 Oct 1832 Rebecca Bland age 53 Potton St Mary the Virgin

Hope this helps in your research

You need to check Potton parish register microfilm (transcripts only go up to 1812) to see how Rebecca was described on burial - wife of Joseph, or widow, which might help cut down the timescale

Hi Bunnygirl

Many thanks for looking on your NBI CD. It maybe that Joseph may have survived past 1841 although I have been unable to locate him on the 1841 or 1851 censuses. It could be that his name was misstranscribed on the census, although I have not been able to locate many of his children in 1841 census apart from his eldest son, Joseph BLAND.

Once again, many thanks for looking.
Regards
Jim

What about the Joseph Bland born 1773 Langford living in Gamlingay, Cambs in 1851 with wife Ann age 64 born Gamlingay, plus her unmarried sister Mary Davis age 67 plus brother Samuel Davis age 62.
In 1841 in Gamlingay are Mary Davis & Ann Bland living next door to each other and there's a Samuel Davis living in Potton. But haven't found Joseph Bland in 1841.
The IGI has marriage of Joseph Bland to Ann Davis on 19 Apr 1840 in Gamlingay
Death index of Joseph Bland in Sept 1859 in Caxton RD which covers Gamlingay

Hi John
Fantastic - fits the bill nicely. He has remarried and having found the marriage in 1840 he is described as a widower.
This resolves my query and I am very grateful for your time & help.

Jim
