I'm not an expert, but as I understand it:

Records pre-WW1 and WW1 itself are available (WW1 records are hit and miss though, because I believe something like 60% were destroyed during WW2?) but since your guy is too young for that time period, he won't show up on the records that are available online.

If he was serving in WW2, his records won't be online because of privacy rules.

My grandfather served in WW2 (as well as before and after) and I had to get his records from the MoD, which required a fee. Unless someone more experienced knows of any resource that he might appear on before WW2, you might have to do this as well.

WW1 is pretty likely with an 1895 date of birth especially when conscription was in by 1916
As already mentioned there are only about 30% of records surviving he may have joined navy or air force too.

I guess my maths skills need a bit of polishing, but in my defence I've had a headache for the last three days! I did have a quick look at Ancestry's WW1 service records and didn't see anything obvious. Perhaps someone with better eyes might see something else.

also if he was in ww1 even if his service record didn't survive you should be able to find his medal index card but I feel you,ll need a bit more info on him than you,ve posted her as there appear to be a lot of henry james in other records pertaining to ww1 is there anybody in the family who may be able to give a clue as to what regiment he was or might have been in .
