Family tree of William Swanson (1819-1903)
« on: Thursday 22 August 13 22:00 BST (UK) »
Hello I am compiling a family tree of William and Timata Swanson (not married!) from Henderson, Auckland whom had children one of whom was George Swanson (1852-1934)
William was a member of parliament and Swanson in Waitakere City was named after him. I'am related to Timata Titoko a close relative of the 'Kingites' Timata died in 1885 at Devonport.
Looking for someone who can provide this family's details

Many thanks
Murray

Hello Murray

I notice that there is a "tree" on the ancestry.com website in respect of William SWANSON - same years (1819-1903).

There is a photo of a headstone (doesn't say where it's located) but the inscription reads "that William SWANSON died 23 April 1903, 84 years" was the husband of "Ani RANGITUNOA - d. 4 January 1897".  Their eldest son Charles (1849-1930) is also recorded on h/stone.

Is this the same William SWANSON you're looking for information about ?

There is a probate (1903) held at Auckland Archives for William Swanson, gentleman.

I'm sure that the Auckland Art Gallery holds a large oil painting of William Swanson. Maybe an enquiry could be made as to whether it would be possible to obtain a photograph?

I know a person who is closely related to this Swanson family. If you wish, I could ask to see if they may like to help you.............
