'AABBY 9.0 fine reader sprint\engine.'
« on: Friday 23 August 13 05:57 BST (UK) »
I wrote to AABBY as follows;
I got my Hewlett Packard PC and an Epsom Workforce Scanner early in 2011 and it came with Windows 7 and amongst the software there was an application called 'AABBY 9.0 fine reader  sprint\engine.
I am afraid that I must have uninstalled it as I have done several searches and all I get is this;

'AABBY 9.0 fine reader  sprint\engine. was not found.'

I don't now how it happened but I would sure like to have it back again.

Can you advise please?

and they replied.

To install the program ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint, please, do the following:

1.            Go to Start > My Computer.

2.            Copy the link ftp://Sprint9:Hbi33=(fs@ftp.abbyy.com

3.            Paste the link to the address line and click Enter.

4.            Copy the distributive.

5.            Install the program on your computer using the downloaded distributive

so I do as they say but when I get to 4 and 5 above I am lost because I am a dinosaur.
Can anyone please advise?

Do you still have the CD that came with your printer?
(If so place CD into your computer then let the disc start up, you should see options to install Abbyy program onto your computer)

After step 3, click on the document name (582_28.iso) - aka "the distributive"!

Save the file.

Then run the downloaded file.
See: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-iso-files-are-how-open-and-use-them.htm

Personally, I use 7-Zip!

I think the problem lies with translations from one language (Russian?) to another! ::)

Thanks KG ..... my grandson was here yesterday and he got down to step 3 which took about 4 minutes to download so no problem other than I did not have discs to burn it on..... hopefully he will get them today.
Nice to have young people looking after us Olde Pharts eh?
Will let you know the outcome.

The article I provided the link for mentions other ways, other than burning to CD-Rom, of getting the software?! ;D

They use a program called 7-Zip (which I use for zipping files).

7Zip is the only program to insert/extract contents of an iso image file. ( It's also free)

As Abbeyprint is an optical character recognition (OCR) program there are others that work in the same manner. Google is your friend here.

You might like to try this free service (no registration required) which enables you to convert up to 15 documents per hour

http://www.onlineocr.net/

They claim to  extract text from image (JPG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF) and convert into editable Word, Text, Excel, PDF or Html output formats.
Converted documents look exactly like the original - tables, columns and graphics.

I think that the Epson scanner software automatically tries to load ABBYY Fine Reader!

So, using other software won't help, as joboy will still get his error message? :-\
