It is interesting that the marriage in Chester took place on 18th Jan 1854 - Richard gave his residence and occupation as "Farmer of Audlem" - father William Buckley, Farmer
Elizabeth was a spinster age 36 living in Foregate Street, Chester - father William Buckley, Land Agent.

On 25th Jan 1854 Ellen Buckley was baptised at Audlem - dau of Elizabeth Buckley of Newhall, widow.
It seems that the vicar was not willing to recognise Richard as Ellen's father.

Ellen's birth was registered in the March qtr of 1854 so Elizabeth had just given birth when she married Richard

I wonder if his name is on her birth cert

Hi

Until 1907, it was illegal to marry your husband's brother.

Thanks to you all for your input, I was totally unaware of Ellen's existence, although I don't know why because I've found her on the 1861 census, which I've looked at before!! I should imagine there would have been some raised eyebrows in 1854 at Elizabeth's predicament. It's interesting that  the marriage details give her father's occupation as a land agent because he was a land agent, but his name was William Preston Bradbury.
