Which Regiment was Grandad in?
« on: Friday 30 August 13 15:34 BST (UK) »
Hello
I am posting a picture of my granddad, William Robinson, who was born in 1899 in Brandon, County Durham.  Some kind Rootschatters have tried to sharpen the picture but the cap badge is still blurred.  I wondered if anyone might be able to tell me which regiment he was in?  Most of the family seem to have been in the Durham Light Infantry but I'm not sure that this is the DLI badge
I have tried to find him on the Medal Rolls but William Robinson is too common a name
Many thanks
Chris

Hi

You may find his regiment number, on the Absentee Voters list, at the local archive, if you know where he lived at the time, also so, did he have any children during the war, if he did, it may be worth sending for the birth certificate's, has this may state where he was at the time of the births, this is how I found the information on my dad time in the war

Thank you both for your help. I did wonder about the Royal Artillery when I was looking at pictures of cap badges on the Internet. He didn't marry until after the war but I will investigate that Absent Voters list. He would only have been 15 when war broke out so I suspect he joined up in the later stages
