Hi! Nigel,

Think you are going to need areas, and names and years to get some help and advice.  Just on the 1881 census, you are talking about over four hundred names alone for Green.
Maybe, you could put some details, on site of what you know, and take it from there.

Good Hunting

Catherine  :)

Hi

On the 1871 census 25, 512 people have the surname Green
On the 1891 census 86, 727 people are named Green

Now you can see the enormity of the problem without forenames, dates of birth and other details

Note: (to any people asking for lookups or info:) it is very helpful ;D if you can cut and paste the 1881 census entry and any others that you might have.

I am not sure if this is the right family but here is a James Green, tailor for you consideration.

1851 Worcs census 2047/702
Redditch;Reg district Tardebigg
Walford Street
Edmund Green,head,m,41,needle finisher,Ipsley,WAR
Harriet Green,wife,m,43,needle stamper,Feckenham,WOR
Elizabeth Green,dau,u,19,needle eyer,Feckenham,WOR
James Green,son,u,17,tailor,Ipsley,WOR
Joseph Miller,vistitor,u,47,Ipsley,WOR

I can't find this family in Redditch itself in 1861. Do you have an address in 1871 for James? Or even better from your gggrandfather George's birth cert? Let me know and I'll have another look.
Couldn't find any Walter Barnett on the Worc 1851. Sorry, the 1861 I have is not name indexed so again would need an address to look for.

At first glance that looks like the right one----the address in 1871 for James was Headley Cross which i cant find in an atlas so i dont know what happened, but Alice Barnett is proving a mystery before the marriage and after but on her wedding cert it states father Walter Barnett

Many thanks for the info

Nigel

Hi again. Below is the 1881 census for a James Green. Is this one yours?

James GREEN   Head   M   Male   47   Headless X, Worcester, England   Taylor
Mary A. GREEN   Wife   M   Female   44   Headless X, Worcester, England
Charles GREEN   Son   U   Male   17   Redditch, Worcester, England   Needle Maker
Martha GREEN   Daur      Female   12   Redditch, Worcester, England   Scholar
Frank GREEN   Son      Male   8   Redditch, Worcester, England   Scholar
Florence GREEN   Daur      Female   3   Redditch, Worcester, England   Scholar
Laura GREEN   Daur      Female   2 m   Redditch, Worcester, England

  Census Place Redditch, Worcester, England
  Family History Library Film   1341704
  Public Records Office Reference   RG11
  Piece / Folio   2942 / 94
  Page Number   24

As you see it has James and Mary as being from Headless Cross which is by Redditch. Is it possible that your Headley Cross is the same place? If so then you will find the 1861 census on RG9-2118,2233 and 2235 I think. I have looked through 2118 and cannot find your people so it might be worth your trying the others which are in Warwickshire. But then, they could have been anywhere around Redditch!

Thats the people many thanks for that

do you have any listing at all for a Alice Barnett or a Alice Mary Barnett born around 1866, if no father called Walter is there any others listed which may match living with mother or some one else
