Obadiah Orange Lemmon was master mariner of The Duke of Edinburgh.  How can I research his career?  I think it was a railway steamer.

If he was born in Hampshire 1836 then he has an entry in Lloyd's Captains Register.

Application for his Masters certificate states:

Birth: 2nd May 1836, Lyndhurst
Address: 15 Middle East Street, Southampton

Awarded a no clasp 2nd China War Medal for his service on HMS Pearl. Pearl supplied a substantial number of men to the Naval Brigade during the Indian Mutiny, and only those men who fought in the Naval Brigade qualified for the IM Medal, but O. Lemon is not one of them.

Thanks all for the replies.  Despite being on the extreme edge of my research I am interested in this character as he has such a colourful name.  Any further info on him would be gratefully accepted.

It's him HMac.  He also had a son with the same name although in some transcriptions 'Orange' is down as 'Grange'.  But who would name someone Grange when you could name a Lemmon, Orange?
