BERRY Harry John
« on: Tuesday 10 September 13 00:33 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I am battling to find this man and his family on any of the census
Harry John BERRY b 12 Oct 1870 Stratford (I have a birth registration) to John Gerkin BERRY and Emily PEARCE married Dec 1864 St Thomas,Stepney(Familysearch)
Harry married in South Africa but there is a Robert Christian BERRY that signs as a witness who I'm assuming is a brother - birth Registration 1878 Mile End.
Although the family it appears were in South Africa - from 1864 to 1878 they must have been in the UK so should by all accounts be on a census.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Wow.... I have just received a birth certificate today of my great-grandfather, who has always alluded me - his name is Robert Christian Berry, and his parents were John Gerkin and Emily (Pearce) Berry. The information I have on the birth certificate is: Robert Christian Berry was born 20 July 1878. John Gerkin the father is marked as a 'brewers assistant' and they lived in (address illegible) Mile End Road Old Town.
Robert Christian did live in South Africa, but we always thought he came out from the UK with the Boer War... He was apparently a blacksmith in Sth Africa and agree that he must be Harry John and Lena Jane's brother. My grandfather never met his fathers family in SA, he was never invited to meet them but remembered his father (Robert Christian) would go alone once a year to see them in the Transvaal. Our family myth was that Robert Christian and his wife had to marry as their son (my grandfather) was born 6 months in their marriage! Am extremely interested to hear any more on this as we have no other information.
