I think Pel's answer has been confirmed by Malky..."Corporation Drainer"....looking at other census returns may confirm it.

Malky's made a good job of taking the lines away !  :)

I would have thought a Corporation Drainer had something to do with Corporation Drainage ?

Do you have his occupation in any other census years?

 :-\

I thin Pel's answer has been confirmed by Malky..."Corporation Drainer"....looking at other census returns may confirm it.

I'm probably wrong but I'm going against the consensus & say the word is 'trainer' not Drainer. A 'D' would logically start from the top & be a downward stroke then back up & down to make the loop.
Are there any other words with a lower case 't' or upper case 'D' on the cert?
Working in a law office he might have been a trainer for clerks etc.
