John Haynes & Mary marriage - Great Tew abt 1823 *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 16 September 13 14:11 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm looking for a marriage of John Haynes to a Mary about 1823.

In the 1851 census John is from Hook Norton and Mary from Great Tew.
Their eldest known  child is aged about 27 so giving a possible marriage of about 1823.

If anyone has the transcripts could they please do lookup for  me, also if possible for Mary's bapt.   (assuming she came from Gt.Tew)

27 Nov 1821 x Haynes John otp bach
                   x Beal Mary otp spin
Wits; Joseph Sodden x Elizabeth Haynes Joseph Phipps Banns.

Now I reckon thats a good bet thats your marriage?

Mmm shame, Mary Beal's baptism isn't there though. There are many other Beal and variant spellings but no Mary that fits.

Hi Nigel,

Now that is a good find and I'm pretty sure its the right marriage.

Pity about her baptism but you've come up trumps twice today so I can't complain eh!

Thank you very much.

Not wishing to confuse or contradict, but there is a marriage in Steeple Barton in 1826.

John Haynes to Mary Chadbon, 26 June 1826. (From the OxFHS-Marriage Index).

If the one NDRFT found isn't correct(which I doubt), this one is for your notes, just in case.

It does seem a couple of years later than their son,  William Haynes birth, c1824. Hook Norton, but birth years in census are sometimes out.

Hi Steve
How's it going?
Nice find - I shall have a look at Steeple Barton PR's and see what they say but I reckon it may be a bit late? - Alan will have to decide!!

The marriage Steve has turned up was on 26 June 1826. The Steeple Barton PR's says both Groom and bride were residients of Steeple Barton.
The only clue which may help you decide is perhaps in the witnesses who were;

Richard Haynes, Mary Carter, John Chadbon, Ann Chilton and Caroline Chadbon

There is no John Haynes baptised in Steeple Barton which fits and looking further nor is there a Mary Chadbon which fits.

My bones say it is the Hook Norton one but Steeple Barton is close, certainly as the crow flies.

You'll have to have a think about this?

Cheers guys
Nigel

Baptisms for William Haynes(c1825) & David Haynes(c1827), in Hooky should sort it out Nigel. ;) ;D

I wonder where Mary Beal(c1798) was baptised, if not Great Tew. ???

As we know....born, is not the same as baptised, when considering p.o.b. ::)

I've checked the Marriage index for Beal/Beale marriages round 1770 - 1800, but tooooo many contenders.
