Family name CAQUELAND
« on: Tuesday 17 September 13 13:17 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me? I've recently discovered that my 3x great grandmother's maiden name is CAQUELAND and she married in Jamaica in 1856. I've never come across that surname before. Can anyone tell me the origins of the surname? I can only find a couple people in Ancestry with that surname!

Thanking you in advance.

Chris

It is likely to have been written in several ways, mistranscribed and misinterpreted over the years making it difficult to trace. You'll probably have to use a bit of imagination when searching for her.  :)
Like Liz, I would be interested to know her place of birth and ethnic origins.

Many thanks for all your help. It certainly has given me food for thought. At the moment all I know is the date she married and when she died. I need to find her birth certificate.

familysearch.org has numerous references to the name and its variants. If you give us more information such as where your person lived and a full name then perhaps we can give you more information.
