Somerset Coroner/Newspaper lookup Henry James GRANT d.16 Nov 1909
« on: Saturday 21 September 13 13:10 BST (UK) »
Is anyone able to help me locate a coroner's inquest or a report in a local newspaper?

I am looking for more details on my ancestor Henry James GRANT. On his death certificate the cause of death is given as "Effects of taking a poisonous substance probably Bichromate of Potash whilst of unsound mind". I'm hoping it might have been reported in a local newspaper if the Coroner's Inquest papers are not available. Where might I find these? The inquest was held 17th November 1909.

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

If you are lucky the file will be at the archives:

Survivial of Coroner's records is very patchy but you are likely to find a report of the Inquest in a local newspaper.

Thanks Nanny Jan
I'll look up the archives and see what I can find.
If anyone is able to search the newspapers, I would be very grateful.

Hi aygee

There is a news item titled 'Suicide of a Taunton Army Pensioner' in the Western Times Thursday 18 November 1909 about Henry James Grant, 64.....

You can register with the British Newspaper Archive and get 15 free credits which will enable you to see the item.

If you have a subscription to Find My Past, you can also see the item or you can buy 'pay as you go' credits. There are topics here highlighting free credits that can be obtained from various sites and newspapers.

If you don't have a subscription, check out your local library to see if they offer access in house as an increasing number of libraries are taking out subscriptions. You haven't updated your profile so we don't know where in the world you are, so can't check your local library service for you.

Hope this helps.

Dawn
