I have a death transcription of a Winifred Maria Filan b. approx 1861 also according to the same transcription shows parents were Patrick Filan, occupation farmer. mother Catherine Beirne. The place of birth states (MULLIGALLON) iRE. Would any body know if this is the right spelling???

Hello,

A possibility is Mullygollan - see here for others beginning with Mull..

Griffiths Valuation (around 1850s) http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/roscommon/baslick.htm  has a Patrick Fylan in Mullygollan and also there are Beirnes around there also.

Hi.
Further to my post, Winifred Madden nee Filan & her husband sailed from Aust. 1919 to Castleplunket, Roscommon, then in 1919 they returned home with them was a Lillian Elizabeth Filan b. 1916 whom they raised as their own till she married in 1941. Q Is Mullygollan near to Castleplunket for I am assuming that Lillian was a niece of Winifred.

Hello again,

It's very close - about a mile, if you look at a map.
Here is 1911 census for a Filan family in Mullygollan townlands which is in Castleplunket electoral division. That will be why Castleplunket was stated, I would imagine.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Roscommon/Castleplunket/Mullygollan/762974/
You can find the family in 1901 also http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Roscommon/Castleplunket/Mullygollan/1663296/

Irish BMD indexes are available on Family Search https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
The registration district is shown as Castlereagh.

It's a pleasure  :)

I can only see a birth for an Elizabeth Filan 1915 not Lilian Elizabeth 1916.
The marriage for Luke Filan is possibly to Elizabeth Egan. She is Lizzie on censuses.

She will, I would think, be Bridget. Delia is often used for Bridget and there is a Bridget birth around the same time.

Bridget Filan  July-August-September 1896  Castlereagh volume 4 page 107

You would need to see if Luke and Winifred are brother and sister to make sure that you have the right family.

I see that Luke's son Peter went to USA - are there any family notes re USA relatives etc?
