Margaret D Minty b 1849
« on: Tuesday 01 October 13 15:49 BST (UK) »
Looking for any info on Margaret D Minty born 1849 in Tyrie the illegitimate daug of Mary Milne ( later Murison )
Last trace I have of Margaret is in 1891 census as a cook to Wilson family in Queens Cross Aberdeen
She had an illegitimate son John Murray Minty b.12/10/1869 Tyrie
He was staying with Gmother in 1881 census in New Pitsligo
His name may have been changed to Murison

Any help appreciated

Hi

Quote
Margaret D Minty born 1849 in Tyrie

Can you confirm her birthyear please - the 1891 shows her as b 1861 Tyrie which would mean she could not have had a son in 1869

Scotlands People has a marriage for a Margaret Minty in Aberdeen in 1899.  I have no way of knowing if it's your Margaret as you have to buy credits to view the entry

Hi Catsma and CaroleW,
Margaret Minty appears to be on the 1851 Census. According to Freecen she is transcribed as -

Mary D Minty  age 2 Granddaughter   born Aberdeenshire, Tyrie.

She is living at Ladysford, Tyrie with the rest of the Milne Family, including her mother Mary Milne.
If this is Margaret it confirms she was born circa 1849.
Looby :)

So do we have 2 Margaret D Minty's b Tyrie as the one in 1891 working for the Wilson family is aged 30

1861 - she is Margaret born 1849
1871 - same as above and a servant for the Murison family (her mother) but no son John Murray Minty

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYYD-WPX

Unless he is the entry transcribed as Elia Merty Murray aged 1??

1881 - b 1854
1891 - b 1861

Hi CaroleW and Looby
thank you for your comments
I agree that the dates and ages don't add up but perhaps she wasn't entirely honest with the info
and perhaps there were more Margaret Mintys born in Tyrie

I think in the 1851 census it is Marg rather than Mary

Elia Merty Murray is her son John Minty Murray because it clear on the original

Oh well I will just keep hammering away at the brick wall! :)

"Margaret D Minty born 1849 in Tyrie the illegitimate daug of Mary Milne ( later Murison )"

Strange one this. In the 1861 census there is an entry, Margaret Minty, aged 12, born Tyrie c 1949, occupation servant, location Monkswell, head of household, James Murison, wife of head, Mary Murison. Oldest Murison child, Andrew Murison aged 8. If this Margaret is Mary's child, and this Mary is Mary Milne, then why is Margaret recorded as "servant" and not "daughter in law." If she is Mary's daughter, then what begs the question, is Ann Cheyne also an illegitimate daughter of Mary, as Ann is also listed as a servant.

Regards

Malky

Malky, definately worth more investigation. My illegitimate great grandfather was living with his mother & stepfather in 1861,aged 6, & classed as a boarder. In 1871 he was acknowledged as a son-in-law. I'd a problem locating him as his mother married & I only knew her by her maiden name & her son had his father's surname. Took about 15 years to find him,but what joy!
