Coroners report 1949
« on: Wednesday 02 October 13 19:45 BST (UK) »
Hi My Father was killed in an accident whilst installing a refrigeration plant in a dairy in Chapel Lane, Chester.
His name was Maxwell Richard Franklin and he died 28 June 1949. The inquest was 15 July 1949 City of Chester coroner David Hughes recorded a verdict of accidental death. I have contacted Cheshire Archives and I am awaiting a reply but I was wondering if there would be any newspaper reports and where would I find them also what newspapers were around at the time.
Warmest regards
Dave ???

Hi,

The archives should be able to tell you which local/county newspapers would have carried a news item and where to find them.

Hello layreader1810
The Chester Chronicle and Observer vary with their reports.
I was lucky to find the Coroner's Report in the Chester Chronicle of my grandfather in 1956.  The Observer also listed the Coroner's Report in much more detail than I had ever hoped to find, information that was missing from the Chronicle.
Now I check both newspapers!
The Courant was published in Chester, not sure of the date it stopped publishing.
Also found an accident in Chester reported in the Liverpool Mercury newspaper.
Good luck with Chester Record Office they are very helpful.
