Mrs M. O'Halloran, Mysia, Victoria ~1900
« on: Monday 07 October 13 22:13 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I 'm trying to track down a maiden name of a Mrs M. O'Halloran, Mysia, Victoria. I have a photo of here 2 young sons and a newspaper cutting of her obituary. I am assuming she was McMahon given that we have these documents.

 - We have a photo, was taken by Arthur and Son in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia around 1900ish.
 - We believe that the two boys in this photo are sons of Mrs M. O’Halloran.
 - Her 2 sons were about 4 and 6 at the time of the photo been taken
 - M. O’Halloran had a lease hold on The Farmers Arms Hotel in Mysia, Victoria from 1900 to 1909 when it burned down.
 - He had only one daughter Mary Beatrice O’Halloran born 1907 died 1912.
 - His wife Mrs M. O’Halloran died at the age of 35 between 1907 and 1912. Apparently she was still  in shock at the death of her father at the time.
 - That would put her birth at about 1875.
 - M. O’Hallorans parents were Joseph O’Halloran 1833 - 1877 (A Miner) and Bridget O’Halloran 1847 – 1927. They had another son William Thomas. born and died 1871. (All buried in Ballarat along with Mary Beatrice

I cannot find a marriage record or any other other information for above Mrs M. O'Halloran which might provide a McMahon connection.

Any info would be great

Thanks,
Noel.

That's amazing information Sue,

All fits into place perfectly now!!! John McMahon (Cappagh, Tulla, Co. Clare) 1837-1907 was a brother of my great grandfather. He had 2 daughters Bridget and Mary. I had no record of Bridget traveling to Australia, just roughly the year she died.

Thanks again for your express detective work. Its another good story for the family tree now you have shown me where it slots in. Much appreciated!!!

Regards,
Noel.

Just further to the findings of Wivenhoe regarding   the estates of Bridget O’HALLORAN and Bridget NOONAN.

Both women died intestate and the files deal with administration.

In Bridget NOONAN’s case Bridget O’HALLORAN was entitled to the administration. Bridget NOONAN  had died at The Farmers Arms Hotel and her only two heirs were Bridget  O’HALLORAN  and Mary McGRATH as Bridget NOONAN was a widow seemingly without children. They received more than 300 pounds each.

In Bridget O’HALLORAN’s case, her husband Michael was granted administration and she had at that time, a personal estate of 300 pounds. To me it is not clear whether she had actually acquired the 300 pounds due to her from her father’s (John McMAHON) farming property in Ireland  as  there seems to be some doubt as to whether or not this money could be passed onto Bridget O’HALLORAN as it was presently secured in Ireland.

Someone else may do better with understanding the papers.

Sue

Noel,
It's Rae Ryan we've emailed each other before . Can you email me  I'd love to chat to you . BTW Bridget who died 1908 it was from heat exhaustion as it was quite bad at the time. I also have some grave photo's from  Wychitella that I've recently obtained.
