Was a member of your family among the 30 Romany Gypsies and Travellers who drowned in an accident on the River Medway near Hadlow, Kent, on 20 October 1853, in the so-called Hartlake Disaster?

To mark the 160th anniversary of the event, we hear that the vicar of Hadlow will be dedicating a new commemorative plaque to the victims in the churchyard of St Mary's, Hadlow, at about 2.30pm on Saturday 19 October 2013.

The Romany and Traveller FHS is also holding an informal, drop-in family history event on the same day in the Old School Hall in Hadlow for RTFHS members and friends. Details here: www.rtfhs.org.uk
