Clifford / Finn of Callinafercy, Milltown, Killarney. Trying to find grave.
« on: Saturday 12 October 13 11:04 BST (UK) »
For a few years now I have been trying to locate the grave of my great grandmother, Catherine (Katie) Finn nee Clifford. She was born 9 May 1887 in Scort, Killorglin and died 17 Aug 1909, just days after her newborn son, James died (12 - 14 Aug 1909).

The place of her death was Callinafercy, Milltown, Killarney.

Family believes she may have been buried in the Old Milltown Cemetery. Though having visited there three years ago only Cronin and Spillane appear on the headstone. Although, apparently, there are 'a whole lot more shoved in there' according to my uncle.

Her husband Thomas Finn died 21 March 1936 (same location) and I haven't found his grave either and am unsure if they are buried together.  His second wife, Hanora (Johanna) Doyle died in 1946 (also at the same location) I have no knowledge of her either.

Due to the life and tragic demise of Katie, I am drawn to her and would love to know where she is resting.

Thank you in advance for any and all responses.
Researching: Cronin / Nolan - Gortadrislig, Kerry
Finn/Clifford - Callinafercy and Scort, Kerry
Spillane - Milltown
Also:- Byrne / Tyrrell - Dublin

Some Kerry burial books are online at Kerrylaburials
There are some Finn Callinafercy burials in Old Dromavally graveyard
but the records for Old Dromavally graveyard only start in 1927 see link http://www.kerrylaburials.ie/en/Browse.aspx so would not show burial for Catherine Clifford Finn

However there is a burial for a Tom Flynn of Milltown 23 Mar 1936 could this have been an error for Finn?
Unlikely but I wonder?

Thank you so much, annclare.
I will check them out but it is a close match. The more I learn about this caper the more I realise that if there is a record with an error on it, it is bound to be mine. I have not heard Dromavalla mentioned before but (after checking Google maps) it is very close to Milltown.

Thanks once again.

If you still get notifications on this thread, annclare, I thought I'd let you know that it is/was Tom in Dromavalla. Johanna is buried with him and Katie/Catherine was believed to be buried there in 1909, all in the Finn family grave. Thanks again for your help.

Hi, just read this and I believe we may well be related, possibly. My Grandfather was from Milltown, his birth certificate says born in Callinafercy. His name was Michael Finn born 1863.. not much we know about him really. I did go to the area some years back but time was against me. Anyway it was great to find someone else tracking down the family tree..

Hi  there,
I have a Michael Finn (2 x great uncle) born 1870 in Killorglin and died 1935 in Queensland, Australia. His parents were James Finn and Julia Connor.

What are the details for your Michael?
