Mary Jane childs born in 1875 is the brother to Richard child's born in 1885

Yes I understand that but getting her daughter's birth certificate is going to show mother as Mary Jane whatever her married name was nee Childs not Mary Ann Childs nee Smith or Edwards.

Does that make sense?  I might have misunderstood something.

Yes I got that MargP.  The new reference to someone called Beth was confusing plus not having the surname spelt with a capital letter (sorry to be picky!) makes it hard to follow especially with a name like childs.
