David Simpson b abt 1864
« on: Monday 14 October 13 04:46 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

This is my first post on RootsChat.

Hoping for a little help as I have hit a brick wall when researching my 2nd Great Grandfather David Simpson.

This is what I know:
Born: abt 1864 (not sure if born in Australia or family legend says maybe in Scotland)
Married: Jane Paling in 1895 in Victoria, Australia
Died: Richmond, Victoria, Australia in 1935 aged 71yrs.
Children: Gilbert Joseph Victor b. 1897 in Richmond, Victoria, Australia. Elizabeth Rose (my great grandmother) b. 1900 in Richmond, Victoria, Australia. Thomas b.1904 in Richmond, Victoria, Australia. Donald b.1907 in Richmond, Victoria, Australia. Eleanor b.1911in Richmond, Victoria, Australia.

Also, "according to family legend, Jane Simpson nee Paling was the first white woman in Kalgoorlie. She accompanied her husband David Simpson and his two brothers whilst they tried their luck on the gold fields of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. She made the trip across the country in a horse and cart, which must have taken a long long time to accomplish" (this according to my grandmother).

Any help on finding birth records and therefore finding out his parentage would be appreciated. I think I'm drawing blanks because Simpson is such a popular surname?

Thanking you in advance.

Nix

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

Is there nothing on his Marriage Certificate or Death Certificate?
I understand Australian certificates have a wealth of family information on them?! ;D

Hi KGarrad,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think I will have to order a copy of the marriage and death certificate to keep the investigation going.

Thanks again.

I know all about this as Jane Simpson (Gin) is my mums aunt, and know the story well. if you're still around get in touch with me and I'll fill in the details. I can still remember her when I was little

gilbert (gib) was a big bloke, lived in fraser street richmond, (along with all the Palings in that street)

jane was born in 1872 in Richmond and her husband was a keen gold prospector. kalgoorlie, south africa. etc. also was on the first motorised safari to search for lassiters reef. died soon after as it was so gruelling so before my time
