Hello all!

I am new to this Chat Room so please understand.
I am looking for the parents of Marian Dring who married William Trotman in 1584 in Black Bourton, OX,  Wm Trotman was born in Stinchcombe, Glosc ca 1555/60  Her father could have been Simon Dring/Symon Dring who died in 1588.
I am also looking for the parents of Simon Dring b 1588 and died 1617 in Black Bourton.  He married Lucy Rogers of Clanfield in 1610.  Lucy then married William Trotman in 1623 at Burford who was the son of William Trotman and Marian Ding.
I am not sure how to receive answers to my questions so please email me directly at jctrotman@aol.com
Many thanks

Jane
This is what I have found this morning for you. I will send it by e mail in case you miss this because others may read or find the thread of interest or use and it does not leave it 'hanging'

Dring Data from St Mary The Virgin Church, Black Bourton Parish Records (PR’s)

I must start by saying I accept no responsibility nor accountability for the data below if wrong, entered incorrectly or causes any harm how so ever caused.
This is simply a collation of extracts from the above records.

Drings not corroborated by any other data
John Dring married Elizabeth Belsire 28 Jan 1572
William Dring married Cycelye Chawney 28 May 1575
Cylene Dring married Thomas Deane 10 Feb 1590

Joane d o John bapt 8 April 1577
Marie   d o John bapt 26 Mar 1574 marr Fraunsis Clerk 12 Oct 1594 at Clanfield

Now then Simon/ Symon
I think having been through all I have and PR’s etc it looks like this:
SIMON Bapt 20 Ap 1562 Bur 10 Nov 1573 I cannot see who he married, and he had at least 5 children:
1.   Maryan (Marian) Bapt 20 Apr 1562 marr William Trotman 14 June 1584 they had a son = William Trotman marr 1623 Lucy Rogers at Burford, she was a widow.
2.   Joan bapt 7 July 1567 marr 18 Nov 1599 William Sperincke
3.   Ellyn bapt 27 Mar 1573 bur 23 Apr 1573. Died at Bradwell where her dad was a farmer
4.   Lucy bapt 9 Aug 1573
Symon bapt 2 Nov 1564 marr Anne. They had a son Simon bapt 8 Feb 1588 bur 25 Aug 1617 who marr on 30 Apr 1610 Lucy Rogers. He, Simon was described in the PR’s as a Gent = Gentleman. Lucy was d o John Rogers a Gentleman of Clanfield. NOTE PR’s say this Simon is buried in the Chancery inside the church at Black Bourton so should be findable!! Quote’ son of Simon and farmer of Bourton Abbats in the Chancel, being the first that was buried there

Simon and Lucy had at least 4 children:
1.   Nicholas bapt 7 Jan 1616
2.   Mary bapt 4 Aug 1615
3.   John bapt 14 Dec 1612
4.   William bapt 19 June 1614 bur 15 May 1620
Now there is now another Simon for whom I cannot find a baptism to prove a link but he was definitely there and had at least the following children;
1.   Dorothy bapt 2 Oct 1634
2.   Simon bapt 8 May 1636
3.   John Bapt 17 Dec 1637
4.   Marion and Mary both bapt 23 May 1640 = twins?
5.   An (not a typo – as transcribed) bapt 7 Apr 1642
6.   William bapt 3 July 1648
7.   Miriam bapt 24 June 1651 bur 29 June 1651
8.   Aaron bapt 29 June 1651 bur 4 July 1651
9.   Dorcas bapt 6 Dec 1652

William Trotman married on 22 Nov 1623 to Lucy Dring at St John the Baptist Church, Burford. His name was entered in the PR’s as William Trettman and hers as Luci Dringe of Black Bourton.
No other Trotman nor Trettman entries in Burford

Dear Nigel,

I am over the moon with your response. Thank you so very much for spending the time to copy all the Dring information.  There is very little on this family :-( and almost no one researching it. I know there were some Drings in Bampton.  It is my understanding that the Drings were Norsemen.
The name Dring, I think, means a "worker".  I think the Drings started out in Yorkshire.  But as an American - don't hold me to it???

I have quite a bit of the info you found, but you have more.  I am going to redo my Pedigree chart today and get it more accurate.  I had Simon Dring b 1540 the s/o a Thomas Dring and Margery.  Not sure this is now correct.  I knew there had to be a relationship between Marian Dring who m. William Trotman b ca 1555/60( in Stinchcombe GLO ) in 1584 in Black Bourton and Simon Dring b 1588 d. 1617 who m. Lucy Rogers of Clanfield in 1610 in Black Bourton.
There could not have been that many people in Black Bourton, but still a thriving community before the plague.  Oliver Cromwell stopped the record keeping :-(
There was a Robert Dring who died 1645 and left a will which is in the National Archives.  Probate: 11/193  I will google the Archives to see how I may get a copy.  Secondly!!!  how do I read it???

With great appreciation for your help and time.  Jane Trotman in Houston, Texas

Hi Jane
Good I am glad the info is of use.
The Dring line in my tree is back to 1690 - John - born in West Oxfordshire, married Elizabeth Crawley.
Let me know if these crop up in your research?
I have a full set of the Oxfordshire Parish Records - just e mail me if you need a look up - any time.
Regards
Nigel
