aghadowey Thank you so much for your reply, George Leech born in Arklow 1888 is the mystery we know he ended up in South Africa and had several children.  We know there was John, Irene, Barbara and Beatrice (my mother in law) and another son.   Everyone has passed on now, we don't know when George left Ireland.  Family legend suggests he went to Argentina before South Africa but have no idea if that's true and have no record of George's wife.

John died aboard ship in 1907 in Cardiff.

It appears he had a death notice in Limerick Chronicle

page 28
There is no death cert for a John Leech in 1907 in Limerick so good chance this is your John.
Gives an address of 16 Newenham St.

Since my early post we have found further information on the Leech family from Co. WIcklow.  We were looking for marriage and death records for George Leech who ended up in South Africa.  George was the son of John Leech and Sarah Price, they married in Dublin in 1870.  They had 10 children most of them born in Arklow.  George was my husbands grandfather and he was born in Arlow in 1888.  Georges father John Leech was a sea Captain working on general coastal trading between Arlow, Limerick and mainly Cardiff.  He worked on many boats and died aboard the Claremont in Cardiff in 1907.  We also know that another of John's sons Charles was a Sea Captain, he died in Guernsey 1932.  We have a copy of the funeral notice and it states the family left from 66 Hauteville his full name was Charles Verrical Leech.  George Leech (my husbands grandfather) died in Southern Rhodesia.  We now have quite a lot of information including a death notice for John Leech.  If anyone would like further information let me know.  Our niece has been the driver for the search.
