Gravestone deciphering Holy Trinity Berwick
« on: Saturday 19 October 13 14:58 BST (UK) »
Hi
When in Berwick a few months ago I photographed some gravestones with names of people in my tree "just in case" (I'm in Australia).  Now I have found one to be in my family, but I cant read it all.  Can anyone help?

So far I have got:

THOMAS HOW who died 9th June 1856 aged 82 years.
Also FRANCES HOW his wife who died ???  1838.

There seem to be two names underneath  this - SA..... and THO......  There was a daughter Sarah and a son Thomas, but Thomas died in Hertfordshire?

Thanks Barbara

If you have a lot of folks in Berwick Holy Trinity I suggest you buy the MI booklet from the Parish Register Series which can be ordered online from Northumberland & Durham Family History Society
www.ndfhs.org
They have 10 How gravestones in the book and some of them have names on the reverse too.
I will PM you with more info.

If you are still researching gravestones at Holy Trinity, Berwick-on-Tweed many of them are now photographed and indexed online at http://www.gravestonephotos.com/public/cemetery.php?cemetery=2600&scrwidth=1366 though there is only one How gravestone listed and it is not the one you are interested in.
Many gravestones in this cemetery are weathered and illegible and will not have been photographed or if they are only partly legible the photograph will not yield the full transcription and so should ideally be cross-referenced with the Burial Register transcripts.

Thanks Herman - I know the site but had not come across the Holy Trinity ones yet.  The book of inscriptions has been fantastic too - cleared up quite a few mysteries!
