Anyone have a Kindle Fire?
« on: Saturday 19 October 13 20:06 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm thinking......just thinking mind....of buying a Kindle Fire. I already have a basic version for reading books but fancy the extra features of games and internet connection.

What I would like to know is, can you answer emails on the kindle and can you access Ancestry whilst away from home?  For instance I am also thinking of going to WDYTYA in February and would like to know if I would then be able to access my tree whilst at the exhibition.

Any opinions from Kindle users appreciated  :)
Best wishes HL

My friend has one and loves it. If you google Kindle Fire it gives a lot of information including this http://genblogjulie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/using-kindle-fire-for-genealogy_13.html

Thanks groom, that's a very interesting link. I didn't realise access could/would be via an app.

Best wishes HL

My husband has a kindle fire and absolutely loves it.  He accesses his email without a problem. It's a good size too for carrying it about and for using it as a book.  He doesn't share my passion for family history but I can't see why it couldn't be used.  The only down side I can see when comparing it to the ipad is that there isn't a camera on the kindle fire so you can't take pictures 'on the spot' although you can download them from the computer.

Thanks Chris, that's a consideration. I expect an ipad is more expensive though but I will bear that in mind. :)

That will be another decision because they seem to keep upgrading them and the difference between the models is a bit technical to get my head around  :)

Hi,

I have a kindle fire. I am on it now! Can look at mails and answer. Google stuff. Anything you do on computer. I have love films so can watch them. Games and music. On the down side if you use if a lot charge goes down quickly. Lots of apps some free.

I wouldn't be without it. But use other kindle for reading!

jettejane - can you easily transfer all the books from the ordinary kindle to a kindle fire? Is there any reason why you keep them separate? I have an ordinary kindle and have been wondering whether to upgrade to the Kindle Fire.
