Hi Wyn
Edward Simmons is my GGGGG Granfather
He married Mary Fawdon.  1st February 1763 at All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne (bishops transcripts)
She was born Tinmouth? now known as Tynemouth. Circa 1742...still searching for exact date.
She died 28 December 1777 after she fell down the steps of thier home in Dockwray Square, North Shhields..reported in Newcastle Chronicle 3 Jan 1778.

Edward then married Ann Crawford by licence 30 September 1779 at Ellingham, Northumberland
Ann was born circa 1758. Still searching...

It shows in the "Biddlestone Register"  babtism of Elizabeth named father as Edward Simmons.  The babtism of Edward shows Ann as the mother a widow.

I have done extensive search Edwards life.....I have copies of the marriage licence to marry Ann Crawford.  A letter he wrote to his brother John, which is in fact a promise to repay £200 that he borrowed to pay the balance owed on his ship.."Providence and Mary"
I have the Admon to his will, which his wife Ann her father and brother all signed as administrators to his debts on death..the £200 pounds borrowed only a shor while before his death
I can give you information on Edwards voyages including when he was blown to Norway because the wind was in the wrong direction..proof written in Oresundstolden..The Danish Toll register 25 June 1778
If you want more info then contact me I'll be happy to give you the information
Regards

Michael

Hi Michael,  thanks for contacting me. Did you know about Edwards boat Minerva as well? I also have the documents you mention, the bond etc as well as Ann Simmons will 1832.  Did Edward have children before Elizabeth and Edward? I have death records for 1782 and 1783.  Do you have any info on Robert and Mary ,the parents of Cpt Edward?

Hi again Wyn
Edward had only the two children as far as I can find.
Yes he was aboard Minerva when it was blown onto the Black Midden rocks and wrecked.
His father Robert was born 1683 at Netherton Burnfoot, Northumberland, his mother was Mary Steel born 1707 place not yet found.  They were married 30th May 1718
Children
John born Brock Mill Farm 1720..died 9 Feb 1807
Elizabeth born 1724...died 1809
William born 1728...died 1807..married Elizabeth Selby of Adderstone
Mary born 1733...died 1768..married William Davison of Kyloe and Fenwick
Jane born 1739...died 1797
EDWARD
Catherine born 1745...died 1818
Robert born 1737

I can give you Roberts parents....
Robert Simmons who was personal servant to Sir Carnaby Haggerston(the founders of Haggerston Castle, Northumberland) he was born 166? at Netherton Burnfoot, Northumberland died 1704 at Haggerston
He married Elizabeth Selby..born 166? Died 1693
I have found three children...
William born 1680
Mary born 1681
ROBERT

The Simmons' were one of the biggest Catholic families in Northumberland so are reasonably easy to trace
Our Edwards brother John (from who he borrowed the cash) was a farmer on the Haggerston estate, I have I document information about him winning the biggest agricultural show with his sheep, even a photo of an oil painting with him and his sheep

Wyn for some reason I gave Mary Selby as died 1693 which from the records is impossible..I will get my paperwork out and check the correct date
