Putz Hoxne, Suffolk
« on: Monday 21 October 13 02:40 BST (UK) »
Seeking info on relationship between Mills - Huggins - Putz families in Hoxne, Suffolk.  These 3 families traveled between London and Hoxne for baptisms.  Various Putz found on census in Hoxne.  Various Huggins married Putz as did Mills.  Seek info on family of Edward Edgar Putz married to Anna, son Albert Edgar Putz.  Thanks in advance!  WendyW260

Just to help with dates I have found 3 bpts at Hoxne St Peter & St Paul

21 Jul 1895 Albert Edgar PUTZ (born 25 Mar) son of Albert Edgar (sailor) & Anna PUTZ

1 Aug 1886 Ada Florence PUTZ (born 24 Jul 1882) daug of William Herbert (gentlemans servant) & Priscilla Hellen PUTZ
1 Aug 1886 Rose Mildred PUTZ (born 27 Oct 1884 William & Priscilla as above.

So looks like Hoxne PRs record him as Albert Edgar rather than Edward Edgar unless transcripts I have are wrong but FreeBMD records Albert Edgar PUTZ & Annie MILLS married DecQ 1894 Wandsworth.

An Albert E PUTT age 17 recorded on the 1881 CR living in Wandsworth parents William & Fanny. Could this be the same chap - could the name have become corrupted?
William Herbert PUTZ married Priscilla HUGGINS DecQ 1875 Marylebone.

Baptism Hoxne for Albert Edgar

I have a feeling there might be an error here, the reason being,  I have traced the children born to  Anna Putz

1881
Shown as Pritz but corrected to Putz
Letts Road West Ham
William Putz aged 35 born Germany, occ printer and newsagent
Anna aged 37 Germany
William aged 1 born Stratford

1891
Shown as Pieta but corrected
Blyth Road West Ham
Anna wid 49 Germany, occ newsagent
Elizabeth 9
Ernestine 10
William 11
all siblings born Stratford

1901
Blyth Road West Ham
Anna wid 56 Germany
Elizabeth 17 occ confectionery
Ernestine 19
William 21
all siblings born Stratford

So,  Anna being shown as widow since 1891 do not believe this  info on the Suffolk bapts are correct, she would have been in her 50's by the time Albert Edgar was born, not unknown I suppose, I believe she only had 3 children who survived into adult hood

I also believe this baptism is entered incorrectly whether in the ledgers or listed elsewhere, I would like to see the original but unfortunately cannot get to Suffolk at the moment

The Putz family and Mills seem to travel from London to Hoxne so there is a connection there

BUT as always I stand to be corrected

Louisa Maud

PS, Keziah, Second thoughts, was Annie who married in Wandsworth known as Anna, this family of Putz, which should include Albert Edgar, do not appear on 1901, the only Annie is shown as single as a servant living Pancras aged 29 born Hoxne, she seems to have been known as Annie, well the plot certainly deepens.

The Priscilla HUGGINS that married William in 1875 could be this one
Priscilla Helen HUGGINS  Bpt 10 Apr 1855 daug of Frederick & Harriet.   Priscilla seems to have had an illegitimate daug Emmeline Louise bpt 24 Aug 1873 Hoxne.  Priscilla's parents married in DecQ 1852 Hoxne RD Frederick Huggins & Harriet Mills.

Anna (or Annie) PUTZ could be this one
Anna MILLS bpt 8 Sep 1867 Hoxne - daughter of Robert MILLS & Harriet

Looks like Robert MILLS & Harriet MILLS (wife of Fred Huggins) could be siblings
Robert MILLS bpt 27 Sep 1829 Hoxne parents James & Harriet MILLS
Harriet MILLS bpt 19 Aug 1832 Hoxne parents James & Harriet MILLS

James MILLS married Harriet JEFFRIES 24 Mar 1829 Hoxne  (whoops :) )

So if I have got this anything like right Priscilla & Anna were cousins & they married brothers/cousins or whatever William & Albert PUTZ.

I cannot find Albert Edgar born  1895 on 1901, if Annie, shown as living in Pancras born Hoxne was his mother, where was he?, born in Mile End reg district 1895 he would only have been about 6  at the time

There are family trees on Ancestry which are showing Albert Edgar 1895, one shows a marriage to Isabel Lipsey, none found registered so far, I wonder if he and Annie had gone their separate ways before 1901and she is the servant on 1901 in Pancras

One would think with such an unusual surname it would be easy

I do notice at sometime he is living with William and Mary Mills as their nephew in Hoxne but not on 1901, I have trawled through Hoxne district 4 and 5 to know avail, nothing familiar pops out, wonder if he had any siblings, he is very evasive?

Another thing pops into my mind, IF the bapt is him and his father is a mariner I wonder where he died, a mystery so far

Do you know if Albert Edgar had any siblings?

I do feel a certificate would help you with his parents names and his father's occupation
