Hello
thank you for the information.  I had manged to locate him on the 1901 census but cannot locate him for the 1911 census. I have found his wife and family but not him.   Is is interesting that he was a diver but there is not much information about divers.  I do know he travelled to the Malay straits. In 1900 he worked for Siemans. but information is very thin on the ground and of course when I was younger never asked questions of the relatives who might have known.
thanks again.
Udall  Isle of Wight/Hants?Dorset

Edward Robert Udall, Age: 28yrs (Married - Head), Birthplace: Southampton, Address: 6 George's Lane, Gibraltar. (3 Persons at Address) the Census doesn't list his occupation.
But in the records for the Calpe Masonic Lodge he is listed as a Foreman Diver

Notice that Edward Robert Udall, Probate, states his death  as 21st January 1940 at New Inn,West End Southampton.
Out of interest, given the awful constant Nazi bombing raids on Southampton during this period, was this how he lost his life. Brionne.

Not in January 1940. It was still the "phoney war"  at that point.

I have a record of Edward and family departing London for Hong Kong in January 1902. They appear to have been residences in Hong Kong until at least 1905. Edward working as a diver on the various dock works in Hong Kong.
In 1911 Census Return is his wife and family are in Southampton. I have found a UK Outward & Inward Passenger List in 1910 and 1911 respectively, listing a E R Udall as a passenger travelling out and back from Para, South America. (no info otherwise)
Not much then until the mid-1920's working in Nigeria, and then back to the Far East in the 1930's working by then as a Foreman.

His brother Samuel was also a diver.
Looks like a bit of family trade ?!
