William Goodwin
« on: Friday 25 October 13 21:08 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

I am looking to find relatives of William Goodwin

He was born abt 1786 from the 1841 census  at Staveley, Derbyshire.
According to the   1851 census his birth was given as Codnor
Also I have found a record of his marriage to Hannah Simpson 21st May 1810
at Eakring and William was living at Staveley, Derbyshire. The census records indicate Hannah was born abt 1792 at Eakring.

Census details have given me details of their children, but cannot find any details of William or Hannah's parents.

Any such information would be of great interest to me

familysearch has  in two 1785 in Derbyshire- you may know which is nearest Staveley ??
I put in 1780 -1790

William Goodwin baptised 12th june 1785 at St Marys ,Chesterfield ,Derbys- father Abraham
William Goodwin baptised 23rd july 1785 at Etwall,Derbys - father John
did William b 1785 have a son named Abraham - or - John ??

WIKI states Staveley is in Chesterfield ...so Abraham as father looks a good possibility- if it is him -William has 3 sisters - Rose / Hannah  /Mary....any of Williams daughters named Rose/Hannah / Mary ??
oakes,liverpool..neston..backford..poulton cum spittal(bebington)middlewich,cheshire......   sacht,helgoland  .......merrick,herefordshire adams,shropshire...tipping..ellis..  jones,garston,liverpool..hartley.dunham massey..barker. salford

Hi,

In 1841 ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 or 10, so William could have been older. In 1851 William's age was 68, so DOB about 1783. I wonder if he had taken a few years off his age to marry his younger wife and that this is him?

Hi Eyeryone

Many thanks for your replies and very useful information.

claire.t        I think these are the parents of Hannah Simpson  -well done

garstonite   William does have son John and a daughter Hannah. I am inclined to think
William probably more likely to come from Etwall or Codnor than Chesterfield as his wife lives in that area. Both your suggestion and that of DAISY PETAL are the more likely.

DAISY PETAL  Thanks for your suggestion I will look further into both these possibilities.

Many thanks to all three of you for your help - much  appreciated

Hello there I have the will of Abraham Goodwin 1754-1820 and he was an inn keeper in Chesterfield. He has 4 children.
Elizabeth christened 16th February 1783 and married a labourer William Brown.
William Goodwin christened 12th June 1785.
Hannah Goodwin christened 3rd February 1788-died 1865 Sheffield and married George Maxfield who was transported to Australia for stealing a kettle and I have the marriage licence.
Rose Goodwin christened 24th January 1790 and married John Brown.
I can let you have copies of these if you wish.
