Please can someone help with name of ship!
« on: Saturday 26 October 13 04:50 BST (UK) »
Please could someone give a suggestion as to what ship these men were on - they were witnessing a will.

I think it says Pompeii but that seems an odd name for one of His Majesty's Ships in the Royal Navy - the other thought was Porpoise - which I think was indeed the name of a ship in the RN - but I can't actually see that!    Actually, what I think I see is Pompse - but . . . . . . . .   :-\

Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.

HMS Pompée maybe?  It seems there was a ship by that name.

Thanks Erato!   :D

- was just coming back to say that I'd found one of the captured French Ships called that!  I had thought I could see an accent but was a bit stumped - hooray for the internet!

Wonderful - I think that will be it!   :)

One more if you would/are able please - the surname of these men acting  for this will.

I request my . . ?. . . Messieurs John and Thomas . . . . . . - looks like . . M. . andt??   It looks similar to the first letter of Messieurs.
     :)

Hello again WiggyHobbes

Just checked on DocumentsOnline and there is a Will there for Thomas Maude of Great George Street, 1827 so I think we have the correct surname for one man and his brother.....

Kind regards.

Thanks very much Emmeline - that's one I didn't even think of as a surname!

And now I can see it - of course!

Any idea what the word after I request my . . . .  might be?
