O' Connell, Clonlara

Hi there,

I have just started researching my family tree and I'm trying to find out more about my Grandmother.

Her name was Julia O'Connell born in about 1909 or 1910, not in Clare.

I don't know if O'Connell was her given surname.

I know that she lived in Clonlara and left in about 1928. She returned several times in the early 1930's after getting married in England.

I know the name of the house that she lived in, but as a newb, I'm unsure of how much info to put on here!

I have a few photos, one of which she is in with an older male, but it is unknown who he is. Again help and guidance is appreciated!

She may have relatives buried in the cemetery in Doonass Demesne Cemetery.

Was Julia on the 1911 Irish census in Clare yet born in Limerick ?

If so I am presuming the family on Clare were 'foster parents' !

Did you get Julia's marriage cert to see if there was a father and occupation named ?

Yes, you are right about the 'foster parents'.

I am lead to believe she was born in Cork.

She wasn't on the 1911 Clare census, however, the person named in the census who lived at the address subsequently became her surname.

I am in the process of getting the Marriage Certificate, but I 'm not sure all of the relevant details will be included.

It's sooooo tricky dealing with fostering and adoption for that time period as it was the 1950's before it became official and hence some sort of paperwork.

Let us know if you get any leads off the marriage cert !

Quick update.

It appears that I may have been looking in the wrong place in the Census!

I think that I have now found her with a family.

She is shown as a Boarder along with two others, one being a Francis Hayes. It is believed that Francis may be a half brother.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Long time, no post!

Here are two pictures that she had kept.

In the first picture all of the people are all unknown to my family, as is the man in the second. Julia O'Connell is the lady in the second photo.

Can anyone help with the unknown people at all please?

It looks like Francis was her half brother and he emigrated to the US in the 20's.

Still nothing known about her mother though.

Any help appreciated.
