The Cunliffes of Blackrod.
« on: Friday 01 November 13 22:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My mother and my aunt has started their own research and I thought I'd do a bit of internet researching cos they are hopeless with computers.

My family history runs through the cunliffe line. They stayed at Blackrod... near Chorley? Well, we are connected to that place and there is a church there. The Cunliffes worked in the mines. My mother told me that she has an old photo (I've not seen it yet) of James or Jimmy Cunliffe who had 10 children and that he is the spitting image of me.

I know that there is a George Cunliffe at Blackrod but I'm not sure if I am related to him.

We do have a confession letter from my mother's great great great grandfather that discloses details of a love affair that has been kept secret in the family, between the Duke of Norfolk (a bastard child), son of Katherine Howard, and with someone from the Cunliffe family.

So the Cunliffes are related to the Howards through Katherine Howard.

That's as far back as we can all trace it.

But the family history from Blackrod is patchy.

Does anyone know of any info?

Thanks.

This is just a quick reply at the moment one of James Cunliffes brothers John was my 2xGreat Grandfather even though I am a southerner I have managed to do a fair bit of research into the Cunliffes. I do have a baptism, marriage & death for James plus 11 children. I will put the information up later ( I would advise anybody using this information to check it out first)
