Hughes family in Whit(e)church, Pembrokeshire
« on: Thursday 07 November 13 19:22 GMT (UK) »
I am researching Samuel Hughes, born in Whit(e)church (I assume this is Tregroes) Pembrokeshire on 29 June 1817 and baptised at Rhodiad Chapel on 17 Aug 1817.  He subsequently moved to Liverpool. I have it that his father was Levi Hughes, who apparently married Sarah Edmund in 1807. I'm not sure whether this is the same person as 'Levi Hugh' (1787-1823) of Whitchurch.
Any information on the Hughes family earlier than this date would be appreciated

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Samuel married Sidney Brooks in 1838 in Liverpool and his father is shown as Levi - deceased and no occupation shown.  Samuel is shown as a mariner

In both 1851 & 1861 Samuel's birthplace is just shown as Pembrokeshire & 1871 just shows Wales

thanks for your rapid response, I have quite a lot of information already on the Liverpool side, just curious about the Pembrokeshire connection

From the available census info - there is no actual link to Whitchurch or any other area of Pembrokeshire as birthplace is non-specific.  There were other Levi Hughes in Pembrokeshire

Do not confuse the parish of Whitchurch in the hundred of Dewisland east of St David's to the parish of Whitechurch in the hundred of Cemais south of Eglwyswrw.
